Katie Robinson

About the Artist: Katie Robinson Diep

"My paintings and drawings are representations of my life and the experiences that I have had growing up on the coast of Mississippi. Living around the abundance of marine life and aquatic architecture, I've found that the organic and natural forms that reside in the sea contrast so well with the geometric and man-made objects. My goal is to portray my love for the water within my art.

The majority of my work is done in oil, but I love learning and experimenting with different mediums such as clay, acrylic, and ink. I create my art for a simple reason: I love to do it. My art is for my own enjoyment in creating beautiful thing with my own hands. Having other people enjoy my art is just another plus for me. I want others to look at my work and see the beauty that we have here on the coast of Mississippi."

Joy Jennings Newton

About the Artist: Joy Jennings Newton

It can be said that I literally danced my way into the world of art. For many years, I studied and taught ballet. Today, I take what I learned from the world of dance regarding composition, movement and form, and transpose it to the canvas - painting becomes a dance on the canvas.

My travels in France after I received my Master of Arts degree in French also have had a big influence on my work. I still love to paint the scenes of Paris and the French countryside and to surround myself in the memories of my time in France.

I want to capture on canvas the joie de vivre of the people and the reflection of light which is evident in the landscape of France.

I am fortunate to live in this small town that we call home - with its proximity to New Orleans, I can paint those scenes which captures the same joie de vivre of which I speak. Also, right here, the light and the landscape are very similar to that of Provence. Once on a tour in Provence, the tour guide was so eager for me to see the beautiful trees in Provence - they were pretty - they were pine trees!

So, I am happy to join my maternal grandmother and others as a Mississippi artist.

I am a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Stone County Arts Council, and on the Artist Registry of the Episcopal Church Visual Arts.
